Originating in Italy and traversing to
France somewhere between the years 1483 and
1498, Baccarat is a purely gambling game
which can be played in three different ways.
The first of which is known as baccarat chemin
de fer, the second is baccarat banque, and
the third is baccarat punto. This final baccarat
is the American version of the game.
Baccarat only allows for three possible
outcomes. These include: the 'player', the
'banker' and a 'tie'. Seemingly quite tricky,
the terms player and banker do not necessarily
label the client and the house. On the contrary,
they are simply options on which the participant
can place his or her bets.
Particularly unusual about baccarat is
the value of the cards. In fact, in value
over nine does not receive its literal value.
In essence all values over ten have to then
subtract ten. It follows, that ten is worth
zero, fifteen is worth five, etc, etc. additionally,
an ace is worth one.
Baccarat is an unusual game in that any score
of 10 is worth 0 (or 'Baccarat'). The highest
score that can be achieved is 9. Two picture
cards would have a score of 0. A 9 and a
6 would not equal 15 but 5. (Minus the first
digit) An ace counts as 1 and the rest of
the cards retain their face value.
