Poker is a card game
that originated in the saloons of the American
wild west. Quite unlike Blackjack, the game
is between player and player and not against
the dealer. There are many variations of
the game and it is a game in which psychology
plays a very large part. There is a saying
that “ Poker takes a moment to learn
and a lifetime to master”
It is played with a standard pack of
52 cards, however sometimes multiple packs
are used and another variant is that Jokers
or wild cards may be added. The card values
are ranked from the highest card being the
Ace, then King, Queen, Jack, 10 down to the
2. The ace can be high or low. The four card
suites are spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs
and they all rank the same, no suite is higher
than the other.
Each player is dealt five cards and this
is called a “hand”. The hand
with the highest in ranks wins. In some games,
wild cards or jokers are introduced which
can be labeled to be whatever suit or rank
the holder wants.
